Redondo Law helps people who were hurt in Aventura and Sunny Isles Beach because someone else was careless. We help drivers and passengers in car crashes, people hit while walking, shoppers hurt in falls, hotel and condo guests hurt at pools, residents harmed by crime that better security could have prevented, e-bike and scooter riders, and families who lost a loved one. If you need an Aventura personal injury lawyer, we can explain your options and deal with the insurers for you.
We are a Miami personal injury firm. Our only office is at 2828 Coral Way in Miami. You can meet with us by phone, by video or at that office, and if you cannot travel because of your injuries, we come to you. Roads and places in Aventura and Sunny Isles Beach
Aventura and Sunny Isles Beach sit in the northeast corner of Miami-Dade County, divided by the Intracoastal Waterway. Biscayne Boulevard (US-1) is Aventura’s main north-south road, and it is known for heavy traffic. Aventura Mall sits along it, with signals and entrances that draw shoppers all day. Ives Dairy Road, also called NE 203rd Street, crosses Biscayne Boulevard and heads west toward I-95.
The William Lehman Causeway runs east from Biscayne Boulevard at Aventura Mall, across the Intracoastal, to Collins Avenue in Sunny Isles Beach. NE 192nd Street runs beside and under it as a local road. People on foot are not allowed on the causeway itself. On the barrier island, Collins Avenue (State Road A1A) is the main road. It is lined with high-rise condos, hotels and stores, with the beach and the Atlantic on the east side. To the south, Sunny Isles Boulevard (NE 163rd Street) leads west into North Miami Beach.
Crashes and incidents in the cities are usually handled by the Aventura Police Department or the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department. HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, on Biscayne Boulevard, has a 24-hour emergency room and is a Level II trauma center. You can learn how to get your report in our guide to the Miami-Dade crash report.
Car accidents in Aventura
Rear-end crashes in stop-and-go traffic on Biscayne Boulevard, turning crashes at mall entrances, and merging crashes where the causeway meets US-1 and Collins Avenue can all cause serious injuries. Afternoon rainstorms add slick roads and poor visibility for much of the year.
Florida is a no-fault state. Your own personal injury protection (PIP) pays first, up to $10,000, no matter who caused the crash. You must get medical care within 14 days to use it. Florida does not require most drivers to carry bodily injury coverage, so the at-fault driver may have little or none. Your uninsured motorist coverage can help fill that gap. Our Miami car accident lawyer page explains more. Many people here also ride Uber and Lyft; see our rideshare accident page.
Pedestrian accidents on Collins Avenue
Sunny Isles Beach is a walking city. Residents, hotel guests and beachgoers cross Collins Avenue all day and into the night, often between high-rise buildings on one side and the beach on the other. Drivers pulling out of condo garages and hotel driveways, or looking for parking, can hit someone on foot. A pedestrian hit by a car can usually turn to PIP first: your own policy, then a resident relative’s policy, and if neither exists, the PIP of the vehicle that hit you. If the driver fled, call police right away. Read more on our pedestrian accident page.
Slip and fall injuries at Aventura Mall and shopping centers
Malls, shopping centers and supermarkets along Biscayne Boulevard see heavy foot traffic. Spilled drinks in food courts, wet floors near entrances, broken escalators and cracked parking garage ramps can all cause falls. Under Florida law, if you slip on a spill or other substance in a business, you must show the business knew about it or should have known, for example because it was there long enough that staff should have found it. Report the fall, take photos and ask that video be kept. See our Miami slip and fall lawyer page.
Pool, hotel and condo injuries
Hotels and condo associations must keep pools, decks, stairs, balconies and common areas reasonably safe. Slippery pool decks, broken gates, missing depth markers, poor lighting and loose railings can cause serious injuries, including near-drownings. Elevators and parking garages in high-rise buildings can be hazards too. The facts of each case decide who, if anyone, is responsible. Keep your room or unit number, the incident report and the names of staff you spoke with.
Negligent security in condos and hotels
Property owners must take reasonable steps against crime they can foresee. Broken gates, dead lights, broken cameras and unlocked doors can open the way to assaults and break-ins. Since 2023, juries can also assign fault to the attacker. Owners of multifamily housing can get a legal presumption against liability if they meet specific security measures, such as cameras, lighting, deadbolts and a crime-prevention assessment. Whether a building met those steps is often the center of the case. See our Miami negligent security lawyer page.
E-bike and scooter accidents
E-bikes and electric scooters are common on Collins Avenue and around the Aventura shops. Riders have almost no protection, and a door opened into their path or a driver turning across a bike lane can cause broken bones or head injuries. Insurance for these riders can work differently than for people in cars, so it is important to sort out early which policies apply. If a truck or delivery van was involved, see our truck accident page.
Wrongful death claims
When a crash, drowning or other careless act takes a life, Florida law allows a wrongful death claim. The personal representative of the estate files it on behalf of the estate and the survivors, such as a spouse, children and parents. Before founding Redondo Law in 2019, Mike spent six years at Holland & Knight defending major corporations in catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases, so he knows how large property owners build a defense. See our wrongful death page.
What to do after an injury in Aventura or Sunny Isles Beach
- Call 911. Ask for police and medical help for anyone who is hurt.
- Get medical care right away. After a car crash, you must be seen within 14 days to use PIP.
- Take photos of the scene, the vehicles or hazard, and your injuries.
- Get the names and phone numbers of witnesses and the report number.
- If you were hurt at a mall, hotel or condo, report it to management and ask for a copy of the incident report.
- Ask in writing that video be kept. Many systems record over old footage.
- Do not give a recorded statement to the other side’s insurer.
- Call us before you sign anything from an insurance company.
Florida law you should know
Most negligence claims from injuries on or after March 24, 2023 must be filed within 2 years, and a wrongful death claim must be filed within 2 years of the death. Claims against a government agency require written notice first and have damage caps. Florida uses modified comparative negligence: if you are found more than 50% at fault, you generally recover nothing, and if you are 50% or less at fault, your recovery is reduced by your share. In a hypothetical case where you are found 20% at fault, your recovery would be reduced by 20%.
How working with a Miami-based firm works
We do not have an office in Aventura or Sunny Isles Beach. Our only office is at 2828 Coral Way in Miami. For most clients, that makes little difference. You can meet with us by phone, by video or in person at the Miami office. If your injuries keep you from traveling, we come to you, at home or in the hospital. Many seasonal residents and visitors also work with us from out of state by phone and video.
Lawsuits are filed in the county where the case belongs. Aventura and Sunny Isles Beach are in Miami-Dade County, so most cases are filed in the 11th Judicial Circuit. Mike Redondo is the firm’s attorney. He is licensed throughout Florida, and Mike personally oversees every case.
Frequently asked questions
Do you have an office in Aventura?
No. Our only office is at 2828 Coral Way in Miami. You can meet us there, by phone or by video. If you cannot travel because of your injuries, we come to you.
I fell at Aventura Mall. Do I have a claim?
Maybe. If you fell on a spill or other substance, Florida law requires proof that the business knew or should have known about it. Other hazards, such as a broken step, follow general rules. Report the fall, take photos and call us soon so video is not lost.
Who is responsible if I was hurt at a condo or hotel pool?
It depends on who owns and runs the pool and what went wrong. A hotel, a condo association, a management company or a maintenance contractor may be responsible. We look at the incident report, maintenance records and any video.
I live here part of the year. Can I still bring a claim?
Yes. A claim for an injury that happened in Florida is usually brought in Florida, even if you go home. We can handle most of the work by phone, video and email, and you can sign documents electronically.
How much does it cost to hire you?
The consultation is free, and there is no fee unless we win. Florida Bar rules limit contingency fees, and you will receive and sign a Statement of Client’s Rights before we begin.
